Lot 101. WILLIAMSON (Henry): 'The Wet Flanders Plain..': Beaumont Press, 1929: No.1 of 80 copies printed on hand-made parchment vellum, signed by author artist and publisher, with extensive annotations in green ink by Williamson to front flyleaves dated 4th June 1929, annotations and amendments in various inks at points throughout: publishers quarter vellum over printed boards, spine a little yellowed, 8vo: with 2 copies of the first American edition, both with Williamson's annotations plus another copy of the first mentioned edition (No.146/400 copies, buckram backed) and two other later editions. Lot 112. LAWRENCE (A W, introduction by): 'Men in Print..Essays in Literary Criticism by T E Lawrence..': Golden Cockerel Press, No.124/500 numbered copies: some spotting and staining throughout, front pastedown inscribed in black ink 'This book was stained, and subject to mildew, whilst stored in a damp granary of the Old Hall Barn Stiffkey in Norfolk during the 1937-45 period...HW, 21/7/61': with occasional marginalia in his hand elsewhere, plus an extensive note relating to correspondence with T E Lawrence on the divisional title to chapter 4: 4to, blue quarter crushed morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, teg, remainder rough trimmed. Lot 116. THE PATHWAY, FIRST REVISED PROOF, ANNOTATED: the first revised proof copy of 'The Pathway' (1928), fourth title in the 'Flax of Dream' series, heavily annotated and corrected throughout in various inks and pencil in Williamson's hand, initial leaf stamped 'rough proof only which please return' and dated 23 Aug 1928, specially bound in near contemporary dark crushed morocco, gilt title and 'First Revised Proof' direct to spine, 8vo. (1). Estimate: 200 – 300. Hammer: £250.

Lot 117. TARKA THE OTTER: AUTHOR'S SPECIAL COPY: the annotated first draft for the privately printed 1927 edition of Tarka the Otter, later released in an issue of 100 copies: with 4pp prospectus tipped in at front, inscribed by Williamson in red ink 'This is No.1 of the Private Emigrants Edition, of which there is only one copy. Made in Skirr Cottage on 7th Jul 1927...': 8vo, crudely bound in brown boards with cloth spine, further inscribed to backstrip 'Private Emigrants Edition' and 'PS the glue isn't: the darned stuff is 'size' after all. BLAST and BEWARE!', with printed Georgeham label and owl device to front cover, further inscribed by Williamson 'Bibliographical Note and Warning...this very extra special first (glue) edition of Tarka the Otter was made in exasperation, fingers, clothes, hair, ear those all in contact, while Pie and her kitten were eating Ida's very special supper of egg stuffed with last night's sardine-remnant. During the confusion, the fact escaped the author-binder that the leaves HEREIN were loose and unstitched. So beware!!! Open carefully lest the bag of tricks falleth apart. Prize this first & sole copy of the first edition: it will be worth much gold in the (?) to come!!': with occasional further marginalia in ink and pencil at points throughout, contents shaken, front and rear 'endpapers' formed of specimen pages from the subsequent limited edition. Lot 118. TARKA THE OTTER: FIRST & SECOND REVISED PROOFS: the first and second revised proof copies of Tarka the Otter, the first with numerous marginalia and amendments in blue ink in the author's hand, intermittently stamped 'this marked proof to be returned', the second with title page supplied in green ink in Williamson's hand and notes to initial few leaves, the pair uniformly bound in contemporary blue half crushed morocco, spines gilt lettered direct, with original watercolour designs to the boards depicting otters amongst plants, light wear to extremities, both 8vo. (2). Estimate: 400 - 600. Hammer £3200. 

Lot 119. TARKA THE OTTER: 'Tarka the Otter..His Joyful Water-Life & Death in the Country of the Two Rivers': privately printed for subscribers only, 1927: No.2 of 100 numbered copies, this marked the author's copy and signed by Henry Williamson, his owl device beside, further inscribed 'for his son, grandson, great-grandson, et seq. as an heirloom. Or I'll haunt the one as sells 'm!!..8 August 1927', with further handwritten provenance from his son Richard below dated 21st August 1972: printed endpapers, publishers full vellum with morocco label, teg, remainder untrimmed, 8vo: together with a similar copy, No.3 in series, inscribed 'Henry Williamson for G E Williamson': plus another copy in half vellum, No.76/100 copies with Williamson's signature and monogram, additionally signed to front FE 'Charles Robert Calvert Hibbert Esq, with affectionate regard from Henry Williamson Christmas 1927': plus 2 copies of the large paper issue in brown buckram, limited to 1000 copies, both unnumbered/out of series. Lot 120. THE PATHWAY: FIRST PROOF DRAFT, ANNOTATED: the first proof draft of The Pathway, fourth in the 'Flax of Dream' series, specially bound and with Williamson's annotations throughout, inscribed in his hand to front FE 'Dedication on two planes: to Zoroaster, Jesus, Paul, Blake, Shelley, Thompson, Jefferies, Hardy, Shaw (G B & T E) and many others. To the son and the mother, in the hope that there be a pathway to the light in the sun...Henry Williamson, Georgeham North Devon, 1 December 1928', his owl monogram beside, printed label opposite reading 'This is No.1 for Henry Williamson - of the cradle edition of The Pathway', numerous annotations in red/green ink and pencil throughout, specially bound in contemporary brown quarter morocco, gilt lettered direct, Williamson's monogram blocked to the boards, with 2 side ALS to Williamson from Gwendoline Rondle (Williamson's first love), plus a privately produced greetings card from her loosely inserted, 8vo. Lot 121. WILLIAMSON (Henry): 'The Flax of Dream' series: 'The Beautiful Years', 1929, No.15/200 copies signed by author, publishers blue cloth: 'Dandelion Days', 1930, signed by Williamson in green ink and out of series: 'The Dream of Fair Women', 1931, marked 'numberless' in Williamson's hand and with extensive manuscript background to the story's construction in author's hand to limitation page: 'The Pathway', 1928, Williamson's own copy containing 2 letters from John Masefield received in June 1934, plus tipped in photograph and further handwritten background on the narrative in author's hand to limitation page, marked No.201/200 copies (1 of 3 belonging to the author, dated Shallowford 1931) all 8vo: together with another set, 2 of the volumes also with extensive inscriptions by Williamson, plus 4 copies of 'Some Notes on the Flax of Dream and Other Essays', pub. Lot 122. IN MEMORIAM T E LAWRENCE, LIMITED TO 8 COPIES: WILLIAMSON (Henry): 'The Gold Falcon or The Haggard of Love': printed for the author, 1933: No.3 of 8 copies privately produced, inscribed 'No.3' and with initials 'TES' underlined in Williamson's hand below printed dedication to the author, full vellum gilt, teg, remainder untrimmed. One of 8 copies specially printed and bound, eventually produced only days after T E Lawrence's death. It seems likely that this copy was initialled by Williamson in memory of his lost friend. (1) - Hammer: £3600. Estimate: 500 - 800

Lot 123. WILLIAMSON (Henry): 'The Gold Falcon or The Haggard of Love..' printed for the author, 1933: one of 8 copies specially printed and bound, this copy with unique printed dedication to ILW (Ida Letitia Williamson), 'most magnanimous and natural of women whose essence is in the character of Ann': original full vellum gilt, teg, remainder untrimmed, light marks else VG. Lot 124. WILLIAMSON (Henry): 'Salar the Salmon': 'this edition consists of 13 copies of the first printed version, hand-corrected by the author at Shallowford during the summer of 1935..': specially bound in contemporary brown half calf over marbled boards, spine gilt lettered direct, text printed to recto of leaves only, a little scuffed and a few areas of insect action, 8vo: together with 2 other copies of the same edition in half blue morocco, generally in very good condition. Lot 126. ANN (Myfanwy) THOMAS (daughter of poet Edward Thomas and lover of Henry Williamson): 'The Baite by John Donne': handwritten and illustrated ink and watercolour rendition by Ann Thomas, 4pp within covers, dedication to initial page 'to HW from AT December 1 1931' (Williamson's birthday, their relationship commencing in summer of the same year), full page illustration of naked female figure amongst fish and plants, small folio: together with 2 contemporary photographs of Ann Thomas, plus a proof copy of her book, with a few manuscript amendments and newspaper-excerpt photograph of T E Lawrence tipped onto upper flyleaf. Lot 128. HENRY WILLIAMSON'S DOG: oil on board by Mrs F T Nicholson, approx 30.5 x 25cm within old wooden frame, pencilled handwritten provenance by Williamson to verso...'this portrait of my dog Billjohn was painted by Mrs F T Nicholson, (failed as) Royal Academy exhibitor for many years for Lieut H W Williamson 1st Bn Bedfordshire Regt, during the Great War. It was done as a souvenir, for he was ordered to India. The war ceased, and he went not 4 months later (March 1919) came the crashing of the Beloved Illusion...' (1) - Hammer: £210. Lot 131. HENRY WILLIAMSON: PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE: a large quantity of personal correspondence to Henry Williamson, including letters from Gwendoline Rondle mainly 1920-24: a group of ALS from Williamson's 'Granny Hibbert', late 1920s period: correspondence from aunts Maude, Isabella & Leopoldina: letters from his father and mother, 1930s period and numerous others, including ALS from his mother following his breaking the news of Ann Thomas's pregnancy: together with a second box file, largely containing unsent ALS and TLS from Williamson to various correspondents.
