9. General guidelines for researching Exeter individuals with global links
Where searching on-line or using indexed printed materials check in indexes or use keywords for Exeter to isolate local individuals and combine with the place or region of interest (India, Africa, Germany etc) or with a term which indicates a possible international field of activity (missionary, merchant, colonial, explorer, traveller etc)
10. Some biographical dictionaries and on-line resources:
Only a very few are listed as an aid to start searching. Once an individual has been selected, new searches can be undertaken in library catalogues and genealogical sources such as the census, free BMD or trade directories.
