This listing could also be considered as a listing of stakeholders who have an interest in the maintenance of the Devon bibliography and it is still under development. To the main categories should be added the media, both newspapers and broadcasters. In the past library staff scanned newspapers for details of recent local publications, many of which were not widely distributed. Details of addresses, websites and the nature of the collections will also be added to this listing as time permits.

Archives and record offices
Apart from the three official record offices there are a large number of community archives. While not limited to archives as strictly defined, they have amassed considerable collections of local information, particularly in the form of illustrations or audiovisual resources. Often originating in lottery funded projects or Manpoer Services Commission schemes, they are largely maintained by volunteers but many are registered with Archon.

Booksellers
Bookshops are increasingly community centres with coffee shops and facilities for organising workshops or literary events. They frequently have good holdings of local publications which are not distributed more widely. Only a few of the larger charity shops are included here, where they have separate book outlets.

"Archway Bookshop is ensconced in a Grade II-listed building of undetermined age, but tangibly historical character. The stone arch that frames it – and after which it is named – is thought to have been looted from Newenham Abbey after the monastery was dissolved in the 16th century. Inside, the shop rises over two floors, joined by a Victorian-style spiral staircase. Books have been sold here since the mid-1960s. Libraries
There are few libraries in Devon whose activities are primarily directed to local studies documentation and none except Plymouth Local Studies Library and the Devon and Exeter Institution have designated qualified or experienced local studies library staff. In the public library sector across the county there are some significant heritage collections, for example in Exeter, Plymouth, Barnstaple, Newton Abbot, Bideford, Tiverton and Exmouth and most libraries provide some current community information although this is not normally archived. Unless there is personal initiative, local heritage collections are not maintained or developed. In Ivybridge for example parish box files were created for parishes outside the immediate catchment area while other libraries all parish box files have been disposed of. Without staff or resources the Westcountry Studies Library is no longer able to maintain its own collection, let alone support local studies and heritage collections across the county.

Museums provide the largest network of resource providers outside the public library and tourist information sectors but, unlike the public sector, there is no county service for the museum sector. Many museums charge for admission, many open only seasonally and most are staffed by volunteers. Nevertheless many of them have full museum accreditation and their remit is wider than record offices, covering the present as well as the past and including the natural environment, arts, cultural and socio-economic conditions. They are often attached to local history organisatons or have friends groups. Some, such as Topsham Museum, have an active publicationsprogramme and also maintain extensive collections of documentation.

Originally a bimonthly, by March 2012 we had grown from 4 pages to 10 and from April 2012, the Phoenix became monthly. An annual short story competition was launched in August 2010 but after 5 years, it was decided to rest the competition. In July 2011, Chudleigh Phoenix Publications was established with an anthology of short stories Life is Not a Trifling Affair, written by Elizabeth Ducie and launched at the Chudleigh Literary Festival on 13th July 2011.
