Devon Collections

A page put up in great haste following discussions at a recent meeting on the potential value of involving community heritage collections across the county in contributing to a database of Devon's historical resources. It experiments with the record format employed for the Devon Bibliography and can potentially be sorted or searched by place or subject. A collection can range from an entire library, to a significant collection of documents within a library or archive to a scrapbook, or an individual extra-illustrated volume which is an assemblage of more than one printed item. It does not replace library or archive catalogue records for individual documents, books, pamphlets, ephemera, periodical articles, maps, or illustrations. It is based on a listing of collections within the Westcountry Studies Library combined with a small selection of collections referred to in recent issues of Devon History News and Friends of Devon's Archives Newsletters. Most of the links to listings of collections do not work since the migration of the local studies database from Devon County Council to the South West Heritage Trust. Very much work in progress.
